You havefuture waterfall probably never had this experience: discussing something with your significant other and assuming that you’re both on the same page, then finding out you each have a very different picture in your head.  It was time to build the waterfall for our pond and Charlie asked me what kind of rock I liked.  I wanted something with greys, rounded edges, very natural and blending in.  I wanted big boulders that the waterfall/stream would meander through on its way down the hill before spilling into the pond. He showed me a picture of the rock he wanted to buy.  It was orange-y with sharp edges but for some reason I thought it’d be okay.   As we were walking the dog one evening we were discussing how we were going to build this waterfall and as we passed a low stone wall, I said, “as long as the rocks don’t look like that.”  He said that they looked exactly like that and that they were already sitting on the property.  I tell you, you give this man the green light and he’s off and running!  So, we went and looked at the rocks and neither of us actually liked them.  They were whiter than the sample and more sharply/squarely cut that we’d realized.

We're thinking that whatever we do on the waterfall should at least come close to what we’re using on the house so we needed to decide on house stone before we proceeded with the waterfall.  Today we drove around and pointed out houses and walls that we each liked until we both decided we liked the rock on a home we’d already built.  It had some greys as well as some oranges, with smoother edges. We also have a broken-down stone wall at our current home, which we’ve decided to take with us.  We’ll use some of it interspersed with the fieldstone we purchased.  And we’ll have plenty to build some low stone walls along the new driveway.

So whatever happened to the ugly white rocks?  We’re going to put them below the waterline interspersed with the others and use the preferred colors in the waterfall.  Just hoping that pond actually fills up eventually!
